The hymn "Salve Regina" (Hail, Holy Queen) is over 1,000 years old and is sung throughout the world after Compline, the last liturgical prayer of the day. It is by far the most popular Catholic devotional hymn in the world and is prayed by millions after the Rosary. Christopher Columbus and his sailors sang this hymn every night on their voyages, and it has been a favorite of sailors ever since. The youth of our Archdiocese know it from their night prayers around summer campfires, and it is sung at funerals of our priests.
