• What is the sleeping arrangement?
  • Guys and girls are separated into two different bunkhouses (Alpha and Omega). Each teen is in a room with their small groups and high school leaders. Additionally, there are two core team specific rooms with our adult core who are also located in each building. This is for emergency reasons, but only under emergency situations are they allowed to enter the teens' rooms and they have a different bathroom. Additionally, we have strict rules that the opposite gender, teen and adult, is not allowed to enter the bunkhouse of the other gender under any circumstance.
• What is the chaperone to teen ratio? Who are the chaperones?
  • For every person under 18, we must maintain a ratio of one adult to 8 teens. This is at the minimum.
  • Last year, we had 20 adult chaperones and 30 high school chaperones. We are looking at similar numbers this year. These adult chaperones are members of our core team and are all safe environment trained in the Archdiocese of Kansas City. Our core team is adults who help us on a weekly basis either at high school ministry Sunday Life Nights or middle school ministry Wednesday EDGE nights.
  • This provides us with a ratio of about 1 leader to 2 teens. For adult specific ratio, it is about 1 adult to every 5 teens.
• How can I get a hold of my teen during the trip?
  • You will be given the youth ministers personal phone number and we will keep our phones on. The teens also can always borrow either of our phones to call parent.
  • If there is a specific concern with this, please reach out to one of the youth ministers, and we can figure out the best way to accommodate!
• What about the high school placement test?
  • This is a conflict that we end up having most years. I have been in contact with multiple admissions from the local high schools and they have all guaranteed me that not taking the placement test on this date will not impact your teen's acceptance or potential scholarships. If you have further concern, please email back where your teen is planning on taking the test, if they are, and we can work together to find a solution!
  • The opportunity for an 8^th grade teen to meet someone who will be an upperclassman at their high schools next year and help them bridge the transition from 8^th to 9^th grade is huge! Additionally, keeping them together as a class for both this retreat and the placement test is the ideal. Finally, a few parents from the past few years found that their teen taking the test at the later date gave more time for them to study, get more of the curriculum at school, and not have to take another test among the end of the 8^th grade semester.

We don't want 7th graders to feel like they're just getting through their 7th grade year until they get to Confirmation. Jesus wants to encounter 7th graders right here right now. And we want to create an opportunity for that encounter to happen.
